AJAX LOSE DUTCH CUP SHAMEFULLY TO MINNOWS

PEC Zwolle won the first piece of major silverware in their 104-year history after shocking Eredivisie champions-elect Ajax 5-1 in the final of the KNVB Beker on Sunday, with Ryan Thomas and Guyon Fernandez scoring two goals each.
Ajax had a good start to the match as Ricardo van Rhijn opened the scoring in the fifth minute. But the game was then halted after Ajax fans threw fireworks onto the field, many of them landing around the team's goal.
When play resumed around 30 minutes later, Thomas scored twice in four minutes to silence the Ajax fans. Fernandez followed with a shot under goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer and he headed in the fourth before half-time. Bram van Polen scored the fifth soon after play resumed.
Ajax pushed forward for the last 30 minutes but couldn't pull any closer.
