Carlo Ancelotti married his wife Mariann Barrena for a second time
When they met, Carlo, who was divorced from his first wife, had just come out of an idyllic yet tempestuous relationship with a journalist 18 years his younger - food for a lot of scandal and rumour-mongering in his home country. Mariann, a woman with an MBA from Thunderbird (one of the USA's most prestigious business universities) and another from Cass (a London business school), didn't seem to have a lot in common with a man up to his neck in the world of football.
But, opposites, as they say, can attract, and the two of them hit it off right from the start.
"Since the day I first met him I had the feeling that he wouldn't give me any unpleasant surprises. I knew what kind of person he was. Solid, with strong, steady values. He's the best person that I know", Mariann said of her husband.
When they met, Carlo Ancelotti was managing Chelsea at that time, but he had already negotiated his move to PSG.
"I was having dinner with a gentleman. Before leaving, Carlo came in to say goodbye and spoke to me in Italian: "One day, you will be my fiancé". I burst out laughing and answered him in the same language: "Sure, next time I'll bring the ring", she recalled.
