The FA said the final interviews of shortlisted candidates will end on Wednesday in Abidjan, the country’s commercial capital and main city.
French coach Herve Renard is likely to be the successful candidate, according to supersport.com’s sources at the FA.
The 45-year-old former defender, who led Zambia to final victory in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, enjoys the support of top officials from the football body and ministry of sports.
However, former Sporting and Benfica coach Jose Manuel De Jesus from Portugal is also pulling weight following his wide experience in European club football. But he has never managed a national team, which sources say could hurt his chances.
Another Frenchman Frederic Antonetti, who once coached Rennes, also figures on the three-man shortlist released by the FA last week. He is yet to coach a national side but his skills in detecting and grooming fresh talents earned him a spot in the final round.
About 37 coaches initially applied for the job, including the Elephants’ former coach Francois Zahoui. Five were picked for the long list, which was later reduced to three.
The new coach will be tasked with preparing the team for the upcoming qualifiers of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
