SCHWEINSTEIGER APOLOGIZE TO BORUSSIA DORTMUND FOR CONTROVERSIAL VIDEO

Germany international midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger have apologized for the video captured of him insulting Borussia Dortmund, Bayern's big rivals in the Bundesliga.

Schweinsteiger apologize to Borussia Dortmund for controversial video

"I'm talking to you from my holidays, because it came to my attention that a video of me is doing the rounds on the internet. I want to apologise to all fans, players and management of Borussia Dortmund for the video", he said on Facebook.

The amateur video footage, which spread like wildfire over the weekend, shows the player talking to a group of people while they egg him on.

"I'm not a man for grand speeches", he explains before starting a song that repeats the lyrics "BVB (Borussia Dortmund) sons of bitches", and he waves his arms in the air as he is accompanied by the onlookers.

Schweinsteiger admitted the slip-up in his apology, but he explains that with the song he didn't want to "insult anybody" and he insisted that he has a good relation with the Dortmund players.

Kevin Grosskreutz, a Dortmund and Germany player, sees the matter as over. "Schweini! What you did wasn't right. But I understand your explanation of it and I'll never forget everything that you've done for me", he wrote on his Facebook.

Dortmund, meanwhile, responded to the turn of events with understanding and humour, saying that there was "no problem". "We'll always consider you to be a loyal sportsman", read a release from the club, that also offered Bayern assistance in finding "singing classes".

The video, which has been trending online for the past few days, has caused huge controversy in Germany, especially amongst Dortmund fans. They have taken to the social media to declare that a player with that kind of attitude cannot captain 'Die Mannschaft'.

There are indications that Schweinsteiger's video controversy could deny him succeeding Philip Lahm as the captain of the German National football team. Philip Lahm was the captain of the German national football prior to his retirement from international football .
