MICHAEL OWEN SCEPTICAL OF RIBERY'S CHANCE FOR BALLON D'OR

Former England Striker, Michael Owen told the media that the chances of  Franck Ribery winning the year 2013 Ballon d’Or is slim despite winning UEFA's Best Player in Europe for year 2013. Franck Ribery helped Bayern Munich to win an historic treble last season and some football pundits believes he has a chance to win the year 2013 FIFA Ballon D'or award but Michael Owen thinks otherwise.

Owen thinks the honour is still likely to go to one of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, as he feels they remain the two best players on planet earth. He told FIFA’s official website: “There are so many good players, but the two players who always come to the top of your list are Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“In my opinion they are by far the best two players in the world right now.

“Then there are some other players who have had some great success with their teams; Bayern Munich obviously spring to mind as one of the most successful teams over the last year, winning the Champions League and domestically winning the league and cup.

“So players like Franck Ribery are in with a shout, but I certainly think Messi and Ronaldo are the best two players. They've consistently been very good and I would think it will be one of those two.”

The year 2013 Ballon d’Or winner will be announced on January 13, 2014.
