"James Rodríguez is the best player at the World Cup right now", said Uruguay boss, Tabárez, when speaking about the man whose brace sealed Colombia's win over 'La Celeste' and with it a place in the quarter-finals.
Tabárez praised the 22 year old's creative and technical ability, describing him as "a true footballing talent". He went on to say that in his opinion, "a talent" is somebody who does things differently, plays his game and takes on huge responsibility despite his young age. "I don't think I'm exaggerating, plus he scores goals", added the Uruguay boss of the Colombian, who scored his fifth goal today, overtaking Messi, Neymar and Müller, all on four.
Tabárez also said that Uruguay had struggled to deal with the loss of Luis Suárez, following his FIFA ban. "Entertaining football needs players like James and Suárez", he said.
"Colombia well and truly beat us"
Regarding the game, he said that Colombia had "well and truly beaten" his team. "Colombia have very good players. They well and truly beat us, we have to accept defeat, congratulate Colombia and wish them all the best".
