Cameroon President Paul Biya has called for an inquiry into the country's poor performance at the World Cup.
The Indomitable Lions' campaign in Brazil was a disaster as they lost all three group games, had a player sent off and team-mates fought on the pitch.
Cameroon conceded nine goals, scored only one and were the first team to be eliminated for the competition.
Prime Minister Philemon Yang has been ordered to open an investigation into the causes of the problems.
Cameroon were beaten 1-0 by Mexico in their opening Group A match, were then thrashed 4-0 by Croatia and lastly slumped to a 4-1 defeat by hosts Brazil.
In addition to the humiliating results, Alex Song was shown a red card for elbowing Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic - an offence for which he was given a three-match ban by Fifa.
And during the closing stages of that match, Benoit Assou-Ekotto headbutted his team-mate Benjamin Moukandjo. Cameroon coach Volker Finke called the behaviour "disgusting".
A statement on Cameroon radio said: "The President of the Republic, President Biya, instructs the Prime Minister Head of government, Philemon Yang to open investigations on the causes of the unfortunate participation of the Indomitable Lions at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
"He should provide results within a month and make proposals for a deep and urgent reconstruction of Cameroon football."
