The full-back is due to report back for training on Tuesday and is under contract until 30th June next year, but shouldn't be around that long, as Luis Enrique has apparently made up his mind to dispense with the Brazilian.

A lack of offers had persuaded the veteran to stay at the Camp Nou and leave on a free next summer, but the club isn't keen on this option. The 'Azulgranas' higher-ups are eager to cash in by offloading the 31-year-old now, clearing the way for a bid for Fiorentina's Colombian schemer Juan Cuadrado.

The new Barça coach feels that it is time to kick off a new era at the club and that means saying goodbye to long-serving players like Alves to allow the introduction of fresh blood. The club is fishing for suitors for the Brazilian and now it is a waiting game to see if anyone takes the bait, although the marauding right-back's lofty salary remains a possible stumbling block.
