Luis Enrique was rushed to hospital in Terrassa, near Barcelona, with abdominal pain on Monday morning and is due to go under the knife imminently after tests revealed acute appendicitis.
The Barça coach has spent the last few days laying the groundwork for the coming campaign together with his backroom staff, although these preparations are obviously now on hold until his condition improves.
The Spaniard, who played for Barca between 1996 and 2004, was appointed as the club's first team manager on a two-year deal last month.
Enrique will be keen to get back to work as soon as possible he continues to shape his own side ahead of the new season.
Gerard Pique and Javier Mascherano haved recently signed new deals to stay at the club, while Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic is closing in on a move to the Nou Camp.
Enrique looks likely to be without Cesc Fabregas next season as Chelsea continue their pursuit of the £30million-rated star
