Al Ahli were the home side despite the match being played in the Tunisian capital Tunis, the game was moved from Benghazi due to the ongoing security concerns in Libya.
Sassi Ferjani (pictured) scored the only goal of the game in the 67th minute after being set up by Maher Hannechi, who had only come on as a substitute minutes earlier.
The result also means that Al Ahli have just four points from their five matches so far and are unable to progress to the last four.
The Libyan side's final match in Group B game is away to another Tunisian side Esperance in two weeks time.
Sfaxien, who won the Confederation Cup last year, move to 10 points ahead of their final group match at home to Algeria's Entente Setif.
Esperance must beat Entente Setif in Algeria on Saturday to have any chance of joining their Tunisian rivals in the last four of the tournament.
The 1994 and 2011 African Champions are currently bottom of Group B and are five points behind leaders Setif.
Setif, who were African champions in 1988, know a third consecutive draw at home will be enough to see them qualify for the semi-finals with a match to spare.
The Algerians will take confidence from the fact they beat Esperance 2-1 in Tunisia in the opening game of the group phase in May.
Striker El-Hedi Belameiri scored for Setif that day and is one of three players to have scored six goals in the Champions League this season.
One of the others leading the way in the scoring charts is Esperance's Haythem Jouini, whose six goals include a hat-trick against Kenyans Gor Mahia, but he has failed to score in the group games so far.
DR Congo duo TP Mazembe and AS Vita Club are setting the pace in Group A and wins for both will see the two sides progress to the last four.
Both matches are on Sunday as four-time African champions Mazembehost Sudan's Al Hilal while Vita Club are in Egypt to face Zamalek.
Progression for both Congolese sides would make the final group match in two week's time between the two sides in Kinshasa less crucial.
There was tragedy the last time the two sides met in the Congolese capital in May when at least 15 people losing their lives in a stampede at the end of league title decider.
Hilal and Zamalek both have new coaches in charge with Sudanese Al-Tag Mahgoub replacing Brazilian Paulo Campos and Hossam Hassan taking over from fellow Egyptian Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam.
