Chelsea came back from behind to beat Hungary's Ferencvaros at the Groupama Arena in Budapest courtesy of brilliant second-half strikes from Ramires and Cesc Fabregas.
Brazil's Ramires scored one of the goals that earned Chelsea a 2-1 win over Ferencvaros
Prior to kick-off there was plenty of fanfare to herald the opening of the wonderful Groupama Arena, the Ferencvaros supporters bedecked in green and white arriving in plenty of time to savour the occasion, which included a speech from the Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban.
When the football got underway it was the blue of Chelsea on top, with Drogba drawing the first save of the match, his deflected shot parried to safety by Denes Dibusz after some penalty box pinball.
Schurrle and then Drogba also forced the Ferencvaros stopper into action but when the opening goal arrived it was the home side celebrating. Daniel Nagy was the supplier, his delivery a good one and there was former West Brom and Fulham man Zoltan Gera to volley home the first goal at the new stadium.
Chelsea almost levelled immediately through Ramires but his header from Schurrle’s corner went the wrong side of the post, missing by a matter of inches.
The Blue's only other chance of note before the break was from the boot of Schurrle, a delicious curling free-kick zipping just past the post.
Mourinho made a flurry of substitution and switched to a system using Mohamed Salah and Cesar Azpilicueta as full-backs.
Six minutes into the second half, Chelsea levelled up the score when Salah swung a cross over from the left which was headed away only as far as Ramires. The Brazilian chested the ball down and lashed home from the fringe of the box.
He almost had a second but saw Salah inadvertently get in the way of a low drive, the Egyptian having initiated the move with some lovely skill. Cahill then got up to head a corner straight at Dibusz.
The Chelsea wave kept coming and it was Oscar’s turn to threaten next, bustling his way into the area but not getting his shot away at the death.
Cahill then flicked a Fabregas free-kick goalwards which hit the inside of the post, the rebound falling agonisingly beyond the stretch of Branislav Ivanovic.
Further substitution were introduced including first minutes of pre-season for Victor Moses, the man who spent 2013/14 on loan at Liverpool.
Eden Hazard was another fresh face and after a typically incisive run he very nearly set up the stretching Diego Costa.
It was becoming an increasingly open game and so it was no surprise when the net was rippled again. It was all Fabregas’s work. The midfielder received a throw near the right touchline, jinked and danced his way into the area, skipping past trailing legs as he went, before placing his shot right in the bottom corner.
Fabregas got in Oscar’s way as the Brazilian was set to head home Zouma’s delightful cross, and with almost the last kick of the game Diego Costa raced clear but dinked his finish wide.
Chelsea last pre-season friendly will be against Spain's Real Sociedad at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
