Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said that Fàbregas is the right midfielder to fill the void left at Chelsea by Frank Lampard's move to Manchester City.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says Fabregas is the future
Lampard, 36, left in the summer at the end of his contract before the Blues signed midfielder Fabregas, 27, from Barcelona as his replacement.
According to the London club's website, Mourinho said: "Frank is the history of the club, history nobody can forget.
"Fabregas is the future; history is history but the future is more important at the moment.
"My opinion and that of my players is that Fàbregas is the right player for that midfield position."
27-year-old Fàbregas played a pivotal role in Chelsea's last friendly, scoring the winner in Chelsea's 2-1 win over Ferencvaros in Budapest.
Chelsea, one of the favourites to lift the Premier League title this season, are set to face Real Sociedad in their final pre-season game at Stamford Bridge in London.
On the Chelsea website, Mourinho revealed that not all of his players are fully match fit after the World Cup and their holidays, but said they will be ready for the first game of the new Premier League season, which kicks off this weekend.
