New Zealand coach, Aaron McFarland stated that he will continue with their attacking philosophy when his Junior Football Ferns squad take on the Falconets in Sunday’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup quarter-final clash.

New Zealand reached the knockout stage of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup for the first time by beating Costa Rica 3-0 at the National Soccer Stadium in Toronto.
McFarland said in statement: “They are a very different opponents and on paper it’s a good draw for us.
“Nigeria present themselves as a tough defending side and they can hurt us,if we allow them a lot of possession but we feel that each match presents an opportunity to surpass our current achievements.
“We will work hard with the players to understand how to exploit the defensive strategies of Nigeria, to be a team trying to win the game rather than not to lose.”

McFarland believes the Junior Football Ferns have made significant progress since the start of the competition having reached the knockout stage of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup for the first time.
He added: “I feel like we have come a long way and many of our local friendlies strongly suggest we are more cohesive in all elements of the game. We are feeling confident in our processes and feel we have enough fire power to hurt other teams.”
