AS ROMA CLOSE GAP AS AC MILAN WINS

AS Roma moved to within six points of Serie A leaders Juventus as they claimed a comfortable 3-1 victory over Hellas Verona at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi.
Goals from Adem Ljaljic, Gervinho and Francesco Totti handed the away side the points as Emil Hallfredsson's second-half equaliser proved not enough for Verona. The Giallorossi recorded a 1-0 victory over Juve in the Coppa Italia in midweek and made it their fifth win in succession, condemning Verona to their third straight league defeat.
Substitute Giampaolo Pazzini left it late to score his first goal of the season and complete a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory for AC Milan at Cagliari. The Italy striker only returned to the team in December following a long injury lay-off and, minutes after Mario Balotelli cancelled out Marco Sau's first-half opener with a free-kick, Pazzini was on hand to knock home from a corner.
It was a second straight league victory for Milan under new coach Clarence Seedorf and, although 14th-placed Cagliari may feel sick after surrendering all three points, the mainlanders can celebrate climbing two places to ninth.
Inter Milan endured another frustrating afternoon as basement boys Catania held them to a goalless draw at San Siro. The Nerazzurri went into the contest looking for their first win in 2014 and had their chances but lacked a finishing touch. The closest Inter came to taking three points was seven minutes from time when Rolando's header was kept out by Catania goalkeeper Alberto Frison. The result may have extended Inter's winless run to five games but the point has at least allowed the Nerazzurri to remain in fifth place, where they are one point clear of Torino, Parma and Hellas Verona.
A last-gasp goal from Alessandro Diamanti earned relegation-threatened Bologna a share of the points from a 1-1 draw with Sampdoria at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
The Rossoblu remain winless under new coach Davide Ballardini, who replaced Stefano Pioli earlier this month, but the point earned in Genoa puts a chink of daylight between them and 18th-placed Sassuolo.
