EL HADDADI SCORES FOR BARCELONA IN HIS LA LIGA DEBUT ALONGSIDE HIS IDOL

The social media have recently turned up a photograph of a teenager posing in the street alongside Leo Messi- the typical shot of a fan who wants a memento of the time they got to meet one of the best footballers on the planet.

El Haddadi scores for Barcelona in his la liga debut

Three years after that brief encounter, that same boy, now 18, has made his competitive match debut with Barcelona, scoring a goal at the Camp Nou and lining up alongside the Argentine star.

That is the story of Munir El Haddadi (El Escorial, Madrid, 1995), a talented forward from the academy who has impressed Luis Enrique so much that he gave him the chance to be a starter in the domestic league opener against Elche (3-0).

Munir stepped up to be counted in his debut match. He started out on the left wing, near Messi and in front of Iniesta. His mission, in addition to creating a threat in attack, was to start the first line of defensive pressure. Despite his rookie status, his teammates sought him out. They have already seen what he can do, having turned out to be the revelation of the pre-season.

46 minutes in, he ran into a space and got free, with Rakitic reading the action perfectly, putting in an assist from the centre of the circle that threw off the opposing defenders. He found himself alone in front of Tyton and, instead of controlling the ball, clipped it with the outside of his left boot to celebrate his first La Liga goal, and receive his first roar of appreciation from the crowd at the Barça temple.
