The 64-year-old Argentinian has been rewarded for steering his side to the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Brazil where they were knocked out by the tournament hosts.

The Colombian federation said: 'The Executive Committee expresses its pride in continuing with this great group of people that brought great results to the country.'
Pekerman's side topped Group C with a 100 per cent record after beating Greece, Ivory Coast and Japan and saw off their fellow South Americans Uruguay in the last 16 with two goals from James Rodriguez.
Real Madrid's summer signing topped the scoring charts with six goals for Pekerman's team.
Colombia have been anxious to tie the coach to a new deal after he guided them to the World Cup quarter-finals this year.

However, after the 64-year-old's previous deal had expired after the summer tournament, talks on fresh terms were put on hold, with the FCF revealing Pekerman had "personal commitments" to attend to.

And after lengthy negotiations it was today announced that Pekerman will remain in charge for at least four more years.

"After several weeks of work, with a view to the new project for the period 2014-2018, the Colombian Football Federation led by its president Luis Bedoya Giraldo, is proud to announce the continuation of coach Jose Pekerman," a statement on the FCF website read.

Pekerman took his side to the quarter-finals of this year’s World Cup, where they were narrowly beaten by hosts Brazil.

His new contract will see him manage the side in two Copa America campaigns and the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
