Xabi Alonso has agreed to extend his stay at Real Madrid for a further two years after penning new terms with the club.
The 32 year old’s current deal at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu ends in
June, and in recent months he had been rumoured to be considering
offers from a host of Europe’s top clubs including Juventus, Paris
Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and
Liverpool.
The situation had been an increasing concern for Blancos coach Carlo Ancelotti, who had regularly encouraged the club and the player to agree terms, and Bernabeu fans, who have cheered the Basque player and chanted "Alonso Stay" during recent games.
Alonso is now set to please everyone at the Bernabeu by committing to Madrid until 2016 at least, according to Marca and AS.
It is claimed the extension is for two years, is worth a reported six
million euros net a year and includes a possibility to extend for
another 12 months.
The Spain international is currently hampered by an ear problem which
will see him sit out Thursday’s Copa del Rey last 16 first leg at home
to Osasuna.
