Chelsea midfielder Kevin de Bruyne is expected to make a £16m move to German club Wolfsburg in the next 48 hours.
The Belgium international, who spent last season on loan at Werder Bremen, has started just five matches since joining Chelsea from Genk in 2012
The 22-year-old is expected to sign a five-year deal and his fee could rise to close to £20m with add-ons.
De Bruyne's sale will allow Chelsea to pursue a deal to re-sign midfielder Nemanja Matic, 25, from Benfica.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho walked out of a news conference earlier this season after being irritated by questions on De Bruyne's exclusion.
The Portuguese has identified Matic as a key target in this transfer window and talks are under way between the clubs over a fee that is expected to exceed £20m.
The Serbia defensive midfielder, who is in Zurich to attend the Fifa Ballon D'Or ceremony, left Chelsea in 2011 as a makeweight in the deal to sign David Luiz.
He had moved to Stamford Bridge in August 2009 from MFK Kosice but made only three appearances for the London club and spent the 2010-11 season on loan with Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem.
