Karim Benzema has extended his contract with Real Madrid until 30th June 2019. The French attacker's current contract runs until 2015, but an extension had been agreed on quite some time ago.
Benzema signs contract extension with Real Madrid
The French international, one of the stars at the 2014 World Cup, netted 24 goals for Los Blancos last season, taking his tally to 111 in 235 matches.
He had been linked with a move away from the Bernabau, with Liverpool said to be interested, but will now stay in the capital until 2019.
“Real Madrid announce the extension of the contract between the player Karim Benzema and the club until 30 June 2019, the next five seasons,” a statement read.
In fact, Benzema and Real Madrid had reached an agreement before the start of the World Cup, but the usual minor details prevented the extension of the contract being officially announced earlier on.
Now Real Madrid's aim is to renew Sami Khedira, another Real Madrid player whose contract runs out in June 2015. Originally the German midfielder had decided to pack his bags and depart Real Madrid, but in the past few days it has looked as though he is much more open to extending his existing contract with the club.
