LIONEL MESSI SET TO PLAY IN JANUARY

Current FIFA Ballon d'or winner, Lionel messi has set himself the goal of arriving fully fit in Barcelona, having left his recent thigh injury firmly in the past, and without the need to work on building up his muscle tone following the injury that has seen him sidelined for more than six weeks.
Barcelona released a statement on 20th December announcing that the Argentine had been declared fit by doctors and only needed to get match fit. That is why Barça's fitness coach, Elvio Paolorrosso is out in Rosario (Argentina) with him, where the forward will work on fine-tuning his fitness.
Barcelona has devised a recovery plan with the club's fitness coaches and medical staff: a kind of pre-season halfway through the season aimed at ensuring the Argentine international touches down in Barcelona on 2nd January completely match fit.
Despite this, Messi will not face Elche on 5th January. The managers want him to rest following his transatlantic flight back to Spain, hoping he will be in tip-top condition for the game scheduled for a week later: against Atlético de Madrid at the Vicente Calderón.
The Atlético game is being touted as one of the Catalans' most important of the season given Simeone's team's impeccable league campaign to date.
However, Barça hasn't ruled out the Argentine making his first-team comeback three days earlier in the club's home Spanish Cup tie against Getafe
