MARTINO MAY STEP DOWN AS COACH OF BARCELONA

Rumours have resurfaced from Argentina in the last few hours that Tata Martino could step down at Barcelona next June, despite having another year left on his contract with the Catalan giants. The truth is that Martino isn't thinking about his future right now. He plans to see out his contract, but knows that nothing is ever guaranteed in the world of football, especially when we have yet to reach the midway point in the season. Results and his relationship with the squad will decide whether or not he stays and the possibilities are endless. There is one tie that could prove crucial, not only to the coach's future, but also to the team's as a whole. That is the game against Manchester City. If Barcelona knocks the English side out, it would be a huge slap on the back for the manager. Getting knocked out on the other hand could cause Barcelona's first real crisis. Barça isn't used to falling at the first hurdle and to do so against City would have the added sting of losing out to two former Barça employees, Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano.Despite holding the top spot in both La Liga and its Champions League group, Tata has had a tough time of it whenever the team's playing style is criticised.
