The club reported on its website that 41-year-old García was admitted to hospital on Sunday after overseeing his first match with the Hornets the day before. His side lost 1-0 to Charlton.

The East of England club stated that the Catalan coach will undergo several medical tests to determine the nature of his illness and will not travel to Blackpool for Tuesday's league game. His assistants, Rubén Martínez and Javier Pereira, will stand in for him in his absence.

"The club wishes Oscar a speedy recovery and will keep supporters fully updated about the head coach's condition", read a statement on the club website.

García managed English club Brighton and Israeli outfit Maccabi Tel Aviv last season, before taking over at Watford two weeks ago after Beppe Sannino's departure.

As a player, he came up in the Barcelona ranks, playing for the first team in the 1993/94 season and between 1995 and 1999, before spells at other clubs such as Albacete, Valencia, Espanyol and Lleida.

García played international football at youth level, but never received an official cap for the Spanish first team.
