SPANISH LA LIGA: VALENCIA BEAT ESPANYOL AS ELCHE DEFEAT RAYO VALLECANO

Valencia continued their excellent start to life under coach Nuno Espirito Santo with a dominant 3-1 win over Espanyol, who will be worrying about their prospects in the Primera Division this season.

Sevilla's midfielder Vicente Iborra battles with Getafe's midfielder Pablo Sarabia.
Pablo Piatti finished off a cut-back from Rodrigo Moreno to put the hosts in front with just eight minutes gone, and second-half goals from Dani Parejo and Paco Alcacer finished off a sorry Espanyol side, although Sergio Garcia did manage to score a late penalty for the Catalans.
Valencia now have seven points and seven goals from their opening three games and are playing with a confidence and fluidity not seen since Unai Emery was in charge, while Espanyol coach Sergio Gonzalez is under pressure with his side taking just one point so far.
A goal and assist from Brazilian striker Jonathas de Jesus gave Elche their first win of the season as Fran Escriba's side saw off Rayo Vallecano in a nervy 3-2 victory.
The visitors took the lead towards the end of the first half thanks to a stunning free-kick from captain Edu Albacar, but Paco Jemez's side pulled level right before the break through an impressive effort from Chelsea loanee Gael Kakuta.
However, a superb solo goal from Jonathas restored Elche's lead and then the scorer turned provider to allow Pedro Mosquera to extend their advantage, which was just as well for the visitors as Alberto Bueno converted a penalty in stoppage time.
Carlos Bacca's first-half penalty and an Alex Vidal tap-in three minutes from time secured Sevilla a 2-0 victory over Getafe at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
A first half of few opportunities burst into life when Getafe goalkeeper Vicente Guaita came to meet a Denis Suarez corner three minutes before the break but succeeded only in punching Grzegorz Krychowiak and conceding a penalty which Bacca duly converted.
Sevilla keeper Sergio Rico dived acrobatically to his left to keep out a Fredy Hinestroza bicycle kick in the 87th minute before Vidal prodded home Sevilla's second goal 30 seconds later after a quick counter-attack to make the points safe for the hosts.
The win sees Sevilla move up to fourth with seven points from their first three games, while Getafe stay 14th with just the one victory from their opening trio of fixtures.
Granada and Villarreal played out a dour 0-0 draw.
The best that can be said about the clash at Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes is that it keeps Granada's unbeaten start to the season going, although that is as good as it gets.
Villarreal will view it as a handy point on the road - especially in the first game back after the international break - but both sides will need to develop a more clinical edge if they are to be involved in fewer games like this.
