BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER NAMED THE NEW CAPTAIN OF GERMANY

Germany's coach, Joachim Low, has announced Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger as the new captain of the national team on Tuesday, succeeding Bayern Munich team mate Philipp Lahm, who retired from international football following their World Cup victory in Brazil in July.

"Schweinsteiger has always taken on responsibility when he had to. I could always rely on him,'' said Low.
"He is very well respected in the team and among the coaching staff. His immense experience is also important.''
But Schweinsteiger will have to wait a while to wear the armband - he will miss Germany's next two games because of a knee injury.
The 30-year-old German, who has won 108 caps and scored 23 goals for Germany, will not lead the team in Wednesday's friendly rematch of the final against Argentina due to injury, coach Joachim Loew said.
Loew also said former VfB Stuttgart coach Thomas Schneider would be his new assistant, succeeding Hansi Flick, who becomes the federation's sports director.
"The challenge with the national team is a great one," Schneider said. "I am honoured that both the DFB and Joachim Loew trusted in me."
Germany host Scotland in their opening Euro 2016 qualifying on Sunday - their first competitive match since lifting the World Cup in Brazil.
