Nigeria international striker Peter Osaze Odemwingie has suffered a knee ligament injury that could rule him out of Stoke City’s campaign for the rest of the season.

The 32-year-old fell during the Potters’ unlikely 1-0 victory over defending champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

While manager Mark Hughes dismissed the injury as nothing serious immediately after the game, reports from England now indicate that the winger would be out on the sidelines for a long spell.

A cruciate ligament injury normally requires orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation which could take between six months and a year to heal.

Meanwhile, Stoke City have moved to cover for the season-long injury suffered by Super Eagles striker Osaze Odemwingie by the signing of Morocco forward Oussama Assaidi who was on loan at the club from Liverpool last season.

Osaze's injury may have brought an end to his international career with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
