SUAREZ USED AS BAIT ON FACEBOOK

Uruguay's Luis Suárez, who recently signed for Barcelona, has been used as bait to attract visitors to a fake website via Facebook. The page imitated the design of the official FIFA website.

Once again, the name of a famous personality with a big pull on the social networks has been used in an attempt to commit fraud, the security company Kaspersky Lab warned today.

The fake website has already been taken down. The page asked users to sign a petition in defence of Luis Suárez after the sanctions imposed by FIFA for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup. They were asked to fill out a form with their name, country of residence, mobile number and e-mail address. The information collected could have been used for phishing or to send spam, SMS messages and malicious applications. It could also have been used for attacks using Trojans to infect computers and mobile phones.

Suárez's fans shared links to the fake petition in support of the player on their Facebook walls en masse. Posts with links to the page were also discovered on football forums, which is probably how it began to spread before hitting the social networks.
