Nigeria's midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has accepted an apology from France midfielder Blaise Matuidi for the horror tackle in Monday’s Round of 16 World Cup match in Brazilia.
The Lazio midfielder, who was stretchered off after the shocking challenge and suffered a double fracture on his leg, said he has forgiven the Frenchman via his official twitter account.
“Hi @MatuidiBlaise thanks for your support and concern. Let the game go on," the 21-year-old wrote.
He also praised the fans: "Thanks to you guys, my friends and fans for your love, support and encouragement. Hoping to do much better next time.”
Earlier, the PSG and France midfielder apologised in public and private for the challenge.
“I'm sorry, I didn’t go in to hurt him and I’m disappointed, as I’m not a bad player. I apologise. I went into the (Nigeria) dressing room afterwards to apologise," the PSG man said.
The Nigeria star will face several months out after tests revealed he has a fractured tibia and fibula in his left leg.
The Super Eagles midfielder, who is under contract with Lazio until June 2016 , made 29 Serie A appearances for the Biancoceleste in the 2013-2014 season.
