BARCELONA INFLUENCED SUAREZ'S APOLOGY TO CHIELLINI

Barcelona told Luis Suárez that they would only go ahead with their attempt to sign him if he made a public apology for biting Giorgio Chiellini. The striker got the message loud and clear and swiftly did as he was told, which was music to the Camp Nou higher-ups' ears.

The Catalan giants remain committed to trying to capture the striker, despite the latest controversy involving the Liverpool star. New coach Luis Enrique is a massive fan of the ex-Ajax man's ability, which is why the 'Azulgranas' have made him their top summer target.

Barçalona had set the wheels in motion for the deal, but things have understandably stalled since Suárez's latest vampire impression. After all, the player and his agents' focus has naturally been on putting together his defence and a possible appeal after FIFA suspended him for nine international games and banned him from any football-related activity for four months.

Assuming it is not reduced, this ban will directly affect Barça if they snap up Suárez, as he will be unable to play or even train with his teammates until late October. This is why the 'Azulgranas' were firm in their demand for a show of contrition from the Uruguayan and a pledge that such an incident will never be repeated.
