In return, Barçelona handed him a lengthier contract than had initially been agreed, signing him on for four seasons plus an optional fifth.
It is also worth noting that after some protracted toing and froing, Valencia eventually settled for half of the fee (€10 million) in cash, with the remainder being paid in two €5m instalments.
